Biševo - Blue Cave (42° 58.5'N; 16° 01'E)

Approximately 3 nautical miles southwest of the island of Vis, you will find the small island of Biševo. There are some small villages on this island that largely consists of bare rocks. However, the eastern side houses an interesting natural phenomenon called Blue Cave (Modra Spilja).

There is a narrow entrance to the cave, accessible via dinghy. However, under the waterline, there are various entrances towards the cave as well. As a result, around noon on a sunny day with calm seas, rays of sunlight enter the cave from below. Reflecting on the white stone, it creates wonderful blue light in the cave.

From the harbour of Komiža, steer a course of 210 degrees to Biševo and the Cave. The bay in front of the entrance offers space for anchoring, but it can be rather busy here around noon.

And, you might not believe it: usually there is a small boat from the local authorities at the cave entrance, demanding a small entrance fee. It is not a rip-off, though, and the Blue Cave is well worth a visit.

Below some pictures that I took while in the Blue Cave.

Rush hour at the entrance, just before noon

Swimming here is a very special experience

It can be very busy here with all those dinghies
