Orebić is a coastal town and rather
popular tourist resort on Pelješki Kanal, situated on the southern coast of
Peljesač peninsula. The lay-out of this harbour is rather strange. In front
of the harbour, the sea is rather shallow – maximum depth is 4 – 5 meters.
This creates a rather serious swell when the wind is towards land (like Jugo).
The harbour of Orebić has a large breakwater pointing southward, with a
green lightbeacon at its head. However, halfway that breakwater there is
another one at a right angle. It is behind that second breakwater that you
find the actual harbour and the moorings. See the map below. |

Behind the breakwater you will find
moorings for yachts. Water and electricity if available from the quay. The
other, north-south breakwater is used by the regular ferry service to
Korčula.
Southerly and westerly winds can cause a
heavy swell in Orebić harbour. Under these circumstances you better move to
Korčula. Bura can be strong,
coming down from the mountains of Peljesač peninsula. |
