Orebić (42° 58.5'N; 17° 11'E)

Orebić is a coastal town and rather popular tourist resort on Pelješki Kanal, situated on the southern coast of Peljesač peninsula. The lay-out of this harbour is rather strange. In front of the harbour, the sea is rather shallow – maximum depth is 4 – 5 meters. This creates a rather serious swell when the wind is towards land (like Jugo). The harbour of Orebić has a large breakwater pointing southward, with a green lightbeacon at its head. However, halfway that breakwater there is another one at a right angle. It is behind that second breakwater that you find the actual harbour and the moorings. See the map below.

Behind the breakwater you will find moorings for yachts. Water and electricity if available from the quay. The other, north-south breakwater is used by the regular ferry service to Korčula.

Southerly and westerly winds can cause a heavy swell in Orebić harbour. Under these circumstances you better move to Korčula. Bura can be strong, coming down from the mountains of Peljesač peninsula.
