Pomena (42° 47.5'N; 17° 20'E)

Pomena is a very small village at the north-western side of Mljet. It is sheltered from all sides by small islands and a small peninsula. The village houses Hotel Odisej. In front of the hotel there are some mooring facilities, most of which is usually taken by cruise ships and hotel ferries. However, there is usually room for 5 – 10 yachts. However, towards the eastern side the water gets very shallow (< 2 meters).

The best anchoring spot by far can be found in the bay behind the hotel (entrance to its western side). For some strange reason, it was not listed in the pilot guide when we visited in 2004. This bay is deep (10 – 15 meters) and well sheltered. The seabed consists of rock and pebbles, so it’s great for anchoring. The bay is marked by a red arrow on the map to the left.

A good alternative anchoring place is Luka Polace, a couple of miles east along the northern shore of Mljet. This bay is marked by a red square on the map..

Below a picture that we took while anchoring here.
